I grew up in Los Angeles and dreamt of becoming a civil rights attorney so that I could help people facing inequality and discrimination. However, while in law school, I was told by a professor that my clear, concise method of arguing would make me a great civil defense lawyer, which is how I began my legal career. Soon after I started practicing, I realized I was miserable. I found my work representing insurance companies to be unfulfilling and empty. I figured I had made a mistake in becoming an attorney and continued on in that field, trying to see my work as nothing more than a “job.”
About eight years after I became a lawyer, I had the opportunity to work on the briefing team of a firm that represented people who were diagnosed with asbestos-related cancer. My entire outlook changed. I cared deeply about our clients, who suffered from devastating terminal diseases caused by the careless and malicious actions of large corporations. I also re-discovered my love and talent for writing, which I had enjoyed early in life but had not considered could be my focus as a lawyer. Since then, I have been passionate about my work, knowing that I am using my research, writing and oral argument skills to help those much less fortunate than myself in the best way that I can.
Working for DOB+S is the perfect culmination of this passion. I am constantly inspired by the others at DOB+S and in awe of their work ethic, supreme abilities, and the genuine care put into every aspect of our practice. I am extremely proud to be part of this superstar team.
