I started law school with a vague idea that I wanted to “do good.” Three years later, I still wasn’t sure how I would achieve that goal. I received excellent advice to pursue a judicial clerkship and was fortunate to work for over two years as a law clerk and research attorney for the Los Angeles Superior Court. During that time, I worked for three Superior Court judges and witnessed the daily grind of the wheels of justice for thousands of cases. The cases I found most compelling were those where someone had been seriously hurt or lost a loved one. I learned firsthand that when the stakes are high, that is when it is most important to have a strong, smart, and compassionate advocate in your corner – and I wanted to be that advocate.
I went on to work for a firm representing people who had been diagnosed with asbestos-related cancer. Today, I am privileged to continue that work at DOB+S. Now, as a parent, I am motivated more than ever by my children. I want to show them that it is possible to “do good.” To help others. To be a force of change. And, perhaps most importantly, to hold others accountable when the world isn’t fair.
