My path to being a part of a plaintiffs’ asbestos firm has taken several turns, always for those whose voice needs amplification in our legal system. As far back as I can remember, I thrived when tasked with helping those whose voice was often unheard or lost. While I set out to become a doctor—because that’s what I thought was expected of me—I ended up becoming a social worker instead. I started my career helping domestic violence survivors. It is through that humbling work I learned about the power of legal advocacy. Connecting my amazing clients to resources and helping them process their trauma was in and of itself gratifying, but it was beyond fulfilling to see their confidence bloom when they knew they were safe and protected–physically and financially–with the help of legal advocacy. I ended up going to law school knowing wherever I landed after law school, it would be in an area where I could be someone’s voice. After graduation, I joined the Federal Public Defender’s office. It was not where I had imagined myself working, but it was a great fit. I got to advocate for people who badly wanted to share their stories and be heard. I learned the art of storytelling, and what an impact that makes in being able to effectively advocate for others. I learned to ask questions and stay curious as things are rarely what they seem at first glance.
After nearly a decade of advocating for indigent communities and people in the criminal justice system, I decided I needed a change. I knew I wanted to continue helping people, and I knew I wanted to continue advocating for those in need of a voice. In that sense, DOB+S was a natural fit. Not only does being a part of this wonderful team allow me to continue using my skills to advocate for those in need, but also, it gives me a chance to fight against those that knowingly abuse their power while disregarding the consequences of that abuse to hardworking people and communities. With my diverse background, I strive to contribute new and creative ways to help our clients fight against those who callously disregarded the consequences of their actions.
